Preliminary Exercise 4: Analyzing Setting for National Lampoon's European Vacation PowerPoint Presentation (Pt. 2)

Image
The objective of this lesson was to analyze the elements of the setting in Lampoon's European Vacation. The media text I created was a digital PowerPoint presentation. I analyzed a film clip posted on the social networking platform YouTube. The purpose of the video was to demonstrate the British people's sense of superiority over Americans. Clark, his wife, and their children appear to be driving from the airport to their hotel in Europe. Before they reach their hotel, they encountered many dangerous interactions. They had gotten into a total of three accidents before getting the directions to the hotel they were going to stay at. The film portrayed Americans as clumsy and accident-prone while portraying Britain's as overly generous and forgiving.  It is important to establish the genre of the text so that you know the key elements to look for in that genre.

A story's setting refers to the era and location in which it is told. Every story has a setting. Setting, set design, acting, costume, hair and makeup, color, composition, props, and lighting are some of the key elements in a film. I determined that costumes and lighting are its most important characteristics. In a film, costumes are essential since an actor's physical appearance greatly influences how the viewer perceives their personality. Lighting can draw attention to specific parts of a scene and intensify tension, drama, or suspense. Lighting also helps establish the mood of a scene. Setting plays a crucial role in mise en scene because it creates mood, reveals characters and conflicts, and hints at a story's theme. It can also help the audience to comprehend the way a character perceives their environment. The media text being created is an online blog. In order to engage my audience, I used my blog to both educate and provide examples from the Lampoon European Vac...

Preliminary Exercise 3B: Introduction to Genre Conventions Bubble Organizer

The objective is to apply my knowledge of mise en scene codes and how they relate to a movie's genre. A film’s setting, plot, atmosphere, tone, and theme can all be used in order to be categorized into a specific genre. The primary genre of a film will depend on where the majority of its content lands. Genre is important to the audience because it informs them about what they should expect from the type of film they will be watching. The adventure, comedy, and thriller film genres are some of my favorites. When the lead characters leave their home in order to achieve a goal or explore unfamiliar territory, the film can be considered to be an adventure film. I enjoy watching the main characters travel on adventures since it adds to the entertainment of this genre. A comedy in a movie is meant to amuse the audience by exaggerating events. I like comedy movies because I enjoy the giggles that result from an amusing joke that I can tell my family. A thriller movie encourages hig...

Mise en Scene Preliminary Exercise! Part A: The objective of the YouTube video "What is Mise en Scene - How directors Like Kubrick Master the Elements of Visual Storytelling" is to explain how mise en scene is used in films and the purpose of its elements. Mise en Scene is the placement of actors and scenery on a stage for a theatrical, film, or television production. Mise en scene is important in a film, because it demonstrates the overall impact of how everything comes together for the audience. It enables the director to communicate ideas to the audience by illustrating how certain objects are used in the scene. The elements of mise en scene are setting, acting, hair and makeup, color, set design, composition, and lighting.  From watching the video, I learned how each element has  a crucial role in the creation of one shot. The mise en scene elements align with the genre of the film. For example, naturalist ic mise en scene is meant to be realistic to match the world ...
