Barthes' Theory of the Semiotic Analysis of the Hunger Games Catching Fire Table 2

This lesson's objective is to complete a Semiotic Analysis Table based on Roland Barthes' Theory of Denotative and Connotative Signs The study of signs and symbols and how they are interpreted is known as semiotics. Since signs are polysemic, they can have many meanings. During this lesson. I learned how to recognize signs (both visually and audibly) when analyzing media products. Some visual and audible signs include characters, costumes, acting, setting, color, lighting, and sound.

The objective of the activity was to recognize and define three signs of my choice from the Hunger Games clip. I worked on this activity alone. After I chose my signs from the Hunger Games scene, I made a PowerPoint. I established the difference between denotative meanings and connotative meanings to research different examples for each sign. From this lesson, I learned how to apply the semiotic theory to everyday life. Both audio and visual information can be taken from using the semiotic theory. This lesson is beneficial because it teaches us that we can use the semiotic theory to decode information we receive in every aspect of our lives.
