  This lesson's objective is to  complete a   Semiotic Analysis Tabl e based on   Roland Barthes' Theory of Denotative and Connotative Signs .    T he study of signs and symbols and how they are interpreted is known as semiotics. Since signs are polysemic, they can have many meanings.  During  this lesson. I learned how to  recognize signs (both visually and audibly) when analyzing media products. Some visual and audible signs include characters, costumes, acting, setting, color, lighting, and sound.      The objective of the activity was to recognize and define three signs of my choice from the Hunger Games clip. I worked on this activity alone. After I chose my signs from the Hunger Games scene, I made a PowerPoint. This lesson's objective is to give students a fundamental overview and comprehension of semiotic theory. The study of signs and symbols and how they are interpreted is known as semiotics. Since signs are polysemic, they can have many meanings. The semiotic theory of Roland Barthes analyzed the process of reading signs and concentrated on how other cultures or civilizations interpret them. According to Barthes, every sign contains either a connotative sign system or a denotative sign system. A denotative sign has a literal meaning. A sign that has obtained multiple meanings depending on the context of the image is said to be connotative. For example, a flower would be the denotative symbol for a rose. One way a rose can associated with a connotative meaning is love and desire. Often times, roses are given to show admiration to a person. Our ideas of the world we live in is shaped by the study of media studies. A larger audience can receive a message when it is presented on the media. For example, my favorite media product is television. Television films can have many underlying messages that often get overlooked. Television is my favorite media product because it is interesting to watch different genres of content. Television can be fun to watch especially for teens because we can watch fictional stories be played out without knowing the outcome in advance. The development of critical thinking about the world and society can also be developed from documentaries and mystery film. I would like to create an adventure/mystery film based towards teens. The purpose of my film is to provide entertainment. The theme of this film will be a supernatural mystery. In order to create my film, I will need to learn how to create special effects.
